Orange Photo Week: SimPackin’

Wednesday, July 2nd, 2008

We’re kooky and we like it. Moo Money has a wonderful write up about the conclusion to Orange Photo Week, a grand attempt at fighting through the lag to set a record. Recently on Orange Island, the Orange team (Extralab, Emvee, and Orange Island) tried to set a record for most avatars in a single snapshot. As some of you may know, SL is not so nice to big groups of people, but hey…to da moon, Alice
Osprey Therion made a great video of the event and Daneel Ariantho and Natty Foggarty took some pictures of the craziness.

Thanks to everyone that helped us out. Be sure to visit Orange Island and our new island Emvee Cuba

Photo Week on Orange

Thursday, June 26th, 2008

So, we have the curator from the Palais de Tokyo in Paris talkin’ ’bout the impact of virtual worlds on contemporary art… ownership, authenticity, aura, all that stuff… that talk’s actually happening right now, but if you happen to read this, denizens, head over to orange island…

Join us today at 11AM SLT for a great discussion  about “ SL Art in the Real World”, featuring Marco Manray (SL photographer) & Margherita Balzerani (Curator, Palais de Tokyo Contemporary Art Museum, Paris) on our Lower Plaza Auditorium.

Moderator: Nick Rhodes (Orange Team)

Emvee Cuba Contest Winners!

Friday, May 23rd, 2008

Three weeks ago we opened our newly redesigned sim, Emvee Cuba, and started taking entries for a photo contest. While I knew that we had created a beautiful space within SL, and I hoped that residents would enjoy it, I have been overwhelmed and impressed by the gorgeous and diverse art that SL residents have created using Emvee Cuba for a backdrop.

We’ve spent the last week in close deliberation, pouring through the more than FIVE HUNDRED amazing images people were generous enough to share with us and with each other. Each image was beautiful and precious and it has been an exceptionally hard decision, however, we promised prizes, so we had to choose! The winners are:

Grand Prize Winner (L$10,000 and physical print)

Jesus don't want me for a sunbeam

“Jesus don’t want me for a sunbeam” by Micheal119de Allen

Runners Up (winners of physical prints):

Wallflower

“Wallflower” by Vye Graves

and

Stolen

“Stolen” by Mindo Darcy

Congratulations to the winners, and a huge thank you to everyone who participated. If you haven’t had a chance to browse through the Emvee Island Flickr Group yet, I highly recommend it– though, beware, you may lose half your day!

We’re Buzzin’ More then Bees!

Wednesday, May 7th, 2008

The response to Emvee Cuba island has been awesome so far! Menno sent this along to the team. It’s one of the best uses I’ve seen for our new home in the metaverse. Dinosaurs, electric guitars and afro-cuban musica, who could ask for anything more :)

We’ve also gotten a lot of great snapshots from the island on our flickr group account! Don’t forget, we still have four days until the deadline for our contest, so get your picture in soon. You can also take a look at pier’s shots of our island here.
On top of that we’re rated as one of the top sites to visit in Second Life by Raul Crimson.

We’re really excited about all the buzz and look forward to doing more events in the future. Don’t forget to submit your pictures to our flickr group where some lucky contestant will win oodles of poodles….maybe not poodles specifically but a whole lot of stuff :) and come visit Emvee Cuba!!

Attendees are invited to browse our gift shops and boutique outlets for Hybrid, Lemon, Torrid and the Loft 12-3:30 SLT with musical entertainment by DJ Doubledown Tandino. We’re also holding a photo contest. So here’s the scoop, take pictures at the Emvee Cuba island and sumbit them to our flickr group. Three high-res pics will be chosen and owners will receive an 8×10″ high quality print of their image. One uber lucky devil will also get L$10,000. The contest lasts until May 16th so be sure to visit the island and get some pictures in. All pictures submited will be considered for the Emvee Cuba gallery in-world. Ugh, I can’t wait. MULTIVERSE LAUNCHES ROBOSNOW INTO NETWORK OF VIRTUAL WORLDS

Metaversatility’s Demo Project Joins Multiverse’s “Worlds in Progress” Initiative

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. – April 2, 2008 – The Multiverse Network, Inc., a leading provider of virtual world development technology for Massively Multiplayer Online Games, educational and social worlds, and business collaboration environments, today launched Metaversatility’s 3D online game – Robosnow – into its network of virtual worlds.

“Metaversatility’s stylized and entertaining robot fighting game reinforces the compelling aspects of our technology and business model,” said Corey Bridges, co-founder and executive producer, The Multiverse Network, Inc. “While Robosnow looks radically different from anything we’ve seen before, what’s truly impressive is that it took about a month to build.”

Robosnow is an evolving space that showcases the Multiverse Platform’s artistic and technical capabilities. The project gave Metaversatility, an experienced virtual world development studio, the opportunity to experiment with Multiverse’s technology independent of their current client projects. Robosnow is a demonstration of the studio’s and the platform’s capability to develop and launch a fully functioning game or world within a short period of time.

“With educational, commercial, and social spaces in development, it was important for us to develop a public demo,” said Matt Daly, Chief Creative Officer, Metaversatility. “It’s meant to be accessible, humorous, and modular, as we plan to continue developing it as a pet project.”

Metaversatility has amassed a diverse portfolio of custom virtual world projects utilizing a variety of platforms and technologies for clients including Orange, Scion, EMI, AMD, USC Annenberg, and Newmarket Films. They offer similar development on the Multiverse platform to clients interested in using proof of concept demos to raise funding or sell virtual worlds projects to internal committees.

Robosnow joins eight other worlds as part of Multiverse’s “Worlds in Progress” initiative. The initiative grants consumer access to projects currently under construction on the Multiverse Platform via the company’s revolutionary world browser, which consumers can download and use for free.

Those interested in downloading the Mutliverse World Browser and visiting any of the worlds in the companies network are encouraged to visit www.multiverse.net for more information.

The Multiverse Network, Inc.
Multiverse is creating a network of virtual worlds. Its technology platform is changing the economics of this medium by empowering development teams to create high-quality, Massively Multiplayer Online Games and non-game virtual worlds for less money and in less time than ever before. Multiverse solves the industry’s prohibitive challenges by providing development teams with the Multiverse Platform, a comprehensive, pre-coded client-server infrastructure and tools, a wide range of free content – including sample worlds for modification – and a built-in market of consumers. The company gives consumers a single program – the Multiverse World Browser – that lets them play all of the games and worlds built on the company’s platform and available in the company’s network.

treadmills, ladies and gents… the future is now
Researchers, somewhere in the vastness of the EU have created a ginormous interactive treadmill.

The big story with this treadmill is that when you walk on it you can see ancient Pompeii before Vesuvius had a fit and boxed its ears. I’m just excited that we finally have a real platform… literally. They’ve definitely cut down on the number of navigational devices needed to traverse v-space…. now all you need is a nifty pair of goggles and a treadmill the size of Botswana
In any event it does seem to have some potential for the old immersion aspect… at the very least we’ll smell like we’ve had a workout

yum

CyberCarpet transports users to virtual worlds

[Date: 2008-04-15]

EU-funded scientists have developed a platform which allows users to stroll freely through virtual worlds. The CyberCarpet is currently set up with a programme that allows users to visit the ancient Italian town of Pompeii and see it as it was before Vesuvius buried it under layers of ash and rock in 79 AD. However, its developers believe that it could have applications in a wide range of fields, including training and town planning.
